Pieces of My Heart is a collection of original prose and poetry, paired with one-of-a-kind photos and artwork. My prose is motivational, somewhat of an epiphany to open your eyes and take in the life around you. A couple of the pieces dive into my soul, revealing more of my core. My poetry is about love, heartbreak, and finding the pieces of your soul after enduring life’s pains. It is not always sunshine and happiness, the dark corners of my mind came out ever so slightly in a few pieces.

Daniel Jenkins is a painter and fine artist. Several years ago he had a brain tumor putting pressure on his optic nerves causing him to begin to go blind. After a successful surgery and removal of the tumor his eyesight was fully restored. He took this chance to never hesitate on pursuing his art again and immediately began doing one portrait a day for more than an entire year. The portraits began normal and traditional but overtime evolved into the semi-abstract style that is in this book. The invention of the illustrated music sleeve is credited to Alex Steinweiss, who began submitting fanciful, imaginative renderings to grace the cardboard music "albums" of the 1940s, which contained multiple discs. A musician, painter, and three poets collaborated to create an exhibit and performance inspired by the theme of Journeys. The theme was drawn from the song “Dangerous Journey” composed by Carl Koelling 1831-1914. Each artist interpreted this theme through their own perspective, background and personal experiences. This book showcases the poems, paintings and song created during this project. The reader will find art in each discipline that not only explores ideas of physical journeys, but also expresses internal journeys of growth and change, discomfort and regret.
